ASTM G176-03
Ranking Resistance of Plastics to Sliding Wear Using the Block-on-ring Wear Test
Cumulative Wear Method
Evaluate and rank plastics with the ASTM G176-03 standard method using the MFT-5000 Multi Function Tribometer.
Summary of the ASTM G176-03 Standard Method
A test block is loaded against a test ring that rotates at a given speed for a given number of revolutions. Block scar volume is calculated from the block scar width, and ring scar volume is calculated from ring weight loss.
The friction force required to keep the block in place is continuously measured during the test with a load cell. These data, combined with normal force data, are converted to coefficient of friction values and reported.
Sliding Wear Parameters
Ring: | Outer diameter of 35 mm |
Block: | Width 6.35 mm |
Force: | 44 N |
Test Duration: | 20 hr |
Speed: | 200 rpm |
Temperature: | Ambiant 25 °C |
Data: | Normal Force (Fz) Friction (Fx) Coefficient of Friction Temperature (°C) Humidity (RH) |
Data Summary
Test results are quickly reported. The real-time coefficiant of friction (COF), down force, and wear data are simulatiously recorded.
