KEY FEATURES
Real-Time Programmable Load Control (No Dead Weights)
Closed-loop force control applies up to 10,000 N programmatically — no dead weights to stack or align. Loads ramp in steps or linearly during a test, which is essential for EP testing where load increases until the lubricant fails
EP and Wear Test With Wide Environmental Range.
One instrument runs both standard four ball tests across wide temperature range (-35°C to 400°C). In addition the additional modules allows to run KRL and 1/2 inch ball diameter 4 ball test etc. on same platform too.
Highest Precision Sensors
In-line torque, downforce, and acoustic sensors record continuously through the test. Friction and torque signals reveal the transition to failure in real time, rather than relying only on post-test wear scar inspection
Electrified
An electrified testing option applies controlled electrical conditions across the rotating four-ball contact, supporting the development of greases and lubricants for electric drivetrains
Easy testing
Recipe-driven software automates the full sequence and processes results the moment a test ends — friction data, wear scar measurements, and test conditions compiled into a standardized report with minimal operator involvemen
More about
What is HFRR Testing?
HFRR (High Frequency Reciprocating Rig) testing is the industry-standard method for evaluating the lubricity of fuels and lubricants. By reproducing reciprocating contact under controlled load, temperature, and frequency conditions, HFRR testing measures friction behavior and wear scar formation to assess a fluid’s ability to protect critical components.
Widely used for diesel, biodiesel, renewable fuels, fuel additives, and lubricant development, HFRR testing helps optimize performance, reduce wear, and improve durability. Compliant with ASTM D6079 and ISO 12156 standards, it provides reliable and repeatable results for research, quality control, and product development worldwide.

Automated Testing and Instant Report Generation
The Rtec Instruments HFRR includes intuitive software designed to simplify testing and reporting. Users can easily create automated test recipes that control all parameters, ensuring consistent and repeatable experiments with minimal operator involvement. Once the test is completed, the software automatically processes the data and generates standardized reports including friction results, wear scar measurements, and test conditions. This streamlined workflow reduces user dependency and eliminates manual data handling. By combining automation with automatic report generation, the system improves testing efficiency, enhances reproducibility between laboratories, and provides clear documentation for both routine fuel lubricity testing and advanced tribology research

Why Electrified HFRR?
As electrification transforms automotive, aerospace, and industrial systems, understanding the impact of electrical currents on friction, wear, and lubrication has become essential. Electrical potentials can accelerate corrosion, alter surface chemistry, influence lubricant film formation, and promote micro-pitting or surface damage.
The Electrified HFRR enables researchers to apply DC or AC electrical loads, measure contact impedance, and study tribological behavior under realistic electrified operating conditions. Fully insulated and easily configurable, the system delivers valuable insights into lubricant film stability, electrical contact performance, and material durability. Best of all, it retains the same intuitive one-click operation as the standard HFRR, making advanced electrified tribology testing simple and accessible.
