Block-on-Ring Tribology

The Block-on-Ring tribometer module is designed for high-load friction and wear testing under controlled sliding conditions. It enables accurate evaluation of materials, lubricants, coatings, and extreme pressure (EP) performance in demanding applications.

The MFT-5000 Block-on-Ring module features a stationary block loaded against a rotating ring or shaft, reproducing tribological conditions found in bearings, gears, shafts, and rotating components. With loads up to 5,000 N, high-torque drive capability, and in-line torque measurement, it delivers precise measurements of coefficient of friction, wear rate, wear volume, and load-carrying capacity.

Testing can be performed across a wide range of loads, speeds, lubrication conditions, and temperatures from –50°C to 500°C, making the system suitable for both tribology research and industrial qualification testing. The module also supports ASTM G77, ASTM D2714, ASTM D2981, and other international ASTM and ISO friction and wear testing standards.

Electrified Block-on-Ring Tribology

The Electrified Block-on-Ring module extends conventional friction and wear testing by introducing controlled electrical loading during tribological experiments. It enables simultaneous measurement of friction, wear, electrical contact resistance (ECR), impedance, and AC/DC current transmission, making it ideal for research on electrified systems.

The MFT-5000 Electrified Block-on-Ring module reproduces the operating conditions found in electric motors, current-carrying bearings, gears, shaft contacts, slip rings, and e-mobility applications. By combining mechanical loading with controlled electrical excitation, it allows accurate evaluation of materials, coatings, and lubricants under realistic operating conditions.

Testing can be performed across a wide range of loads, speeds, temperatures, lubrication conditions, and electrical parameters, providing valuable insight into electrically induced wear, contact performance, and material durability for next-generation electrified technologies.
