High Temperature Chamber 1000°C for Multi Function Tribometer

The Rtec Instruments 1000°C High Temperature Chamber pushes the boundaries of tribological testing. It enables precise friction, wear, hardness, and coating characterization at temperatures up to 1000°C. The chamber is constructed from exotic high-temperature alloys with excellent thermal uniformity. Because of this, it delivers negligible thermal drift and highly repeatable data. These features are critical for meaningful high-temperature tribology research.

Compatible with rotary tribometer modules at speeds from 0.001 to 10,000 RPM, and with fast linear reciprocating modules up to 80 Hz, the chamber also works with high-temperature vacuum tribometer configurations up to 10⁻⁷ Torr. Therefore, the 1000°C chamber provides unmatched testing versatility on a single MFT platform.

The optional inert gas sealed chamber prevents oxidation of indenter tips and samples during testing. This is essential for accurate characterization of aerospace alloys, thermal barrier coatings, and refractory materials. Hot hardness testing at elevated temperature is also supported.

In addition, motorized XY stages enable automated arrays of indents across multiple samples. Combined with the MFT-5000’s patented in-line 3D optical profilometer, surface topography and wear volume are quantified automatically during the test without sample removal.

As a result, the 1000°C chamber is the reference solution for aerospace turbine materials, thermal barrier coatings, ceramic tribology, refractory alloys, and high-temperature dry lubricant research.
