1200°C Hot Chamber

The Rtec Instruments 1200°C High Temperature Tribometer Chamber represents the ultimate in extreme temperature tribology testing — enabling friction, wear, and coating characterization at temperatures no other commercial tribometer platform can match. Study the most demanding materials and coatings under realistic service conditions up to 1200°C on the MFT-5000 platform.

More about

The Rtec Instruments 1200°C High Temperature Chamber is the most advanced extreme temperature tribology testing solution available on a commercial tribometer platform. Enabling friction, wear, and surface mechanical testing at temperatures up to 1200°C, the chamber is engineered from exotic high-temperature alloys with superior thermal uniformity and negligible thermal drift — ensuring highly repeatable and scientifically meaningful results at the most extreme operating temperatures.

Compatible with rotary tribometer modules across a speed range of 0.001 to 10,000 RPM and fast linear reciprocating modules up to 80 Hz, the 1200°C chamber delivers comprehensive tribological characterization under the full spectrum of motion, load, and speed conditions on a single MFT-5000 platform. The closed safe-wall chamber design with inert gas atmosphere capability prevents oxidation of indenter tips and samples — critical for accurate tribological evaluation of ultra-high temperature ceramics, next-generation aerospace superalloys, and advanced thermal barrier coating systems. Loads ranging from mN to 5,000 N allow simulation of both delicate surface interactions and severe high-load contact conditions at 1200°C. Combined with the MFT-5000’s patented in-line 3D optical profilometer, wear volume, surface topography, and tribological data are captured automatically in real time throughout the test — no sample removal required. The 1200°C chamber is the definitive solution for cutting-edge research in next-generation aerospace materials, ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTC), advanced thermal coatings, and extreme environment tribology.
